After reading this chapter, I could remember best that Eliza and Harry ran away in the night,
because Haley wanted to buy Harry the next day. She held Harry in her arms and ran and ran,
her body hurted, but her son made her new strange. When I read it I felt tension. I heard ever
and ever in my head that she must get it!!!!! While Eliza ran and ran away the others on the
farm helped Eliza and wasted Haley´s time a long time how long they could. I thought it was
really good of them.

Chapter Evangeline

Filed under: Summary — jannika9h at 5:52 am on Tuesday, October 16, 2007

The Mississippi River is very long, it starts in the cold north and ends in the sub-tropical south
almost 3,000 miles later. On the steamboat, there is Tom sitting behind one of these bales.
Haley sees that Tom always helps to load and unload the boat, one day Haley let Tom walk arround
wherever he wants. Tom sees all the large houses of the masters and the small cabins from the
slaves. He thinks about his life in Kentucky and about his own cabin. He know that both were
far far away.
One of the passengers is a young man from the St. Clare family of New Orleans. There is also a
five-year-old girl girl who is his daughter and another woman who seems to know them very well!!!
The young girl is very pretty and the author describes her as a intlellignet, young, everytime smiling
chíld. Everybody has to smile at her!!!! She calls Evangeline but everybody calls her Eva!!!
So Eva and Tom talk about theirselfs. So Evangeline wants to talk to her father to buy Uncle Tom.
Tom watches her running over to her father who is standing by the side of the boat, so she slippes
and fall over the side of the boat, but a big, strong, black slve jumps in and is pulling her to the side
of the boat. The next day Eva and her father talk to Haley and buy Tom. Haley signes a bill. Tom goes
to his new Master and thanks him for selling him. St. Clare says that Tom will be his new driver and
Tom is happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fighting for freedom

Eliza, her husband George and their son Harry wants to run away to Canada
because there is freedom and no slavey,at the time they are in the Quaker
house. (it is a community for slaves) So a bad message comes to their ears
some men want to catch them and bring them to their owners and to the
slave market in the Orleans, after that message Eliza, George and Harry left
with some others in a carriage. Suddenly seven men ride to the rocks, where
George, Eliza and Harry are. George stands of a rock and shouts to them
that he is not somebody´s slave, his family is him and he is going to kill some-
body if they come in the near. So a man takes out his gun and points up the
rock at George, but it only pasts George´s ear. He sees Tom Loker, one of the
men, leading the others along the narrow path, so George points with one
of his pistols at Tom and fires a bullet, into his side. The other men run to help
and want to take Tom onto a horse. The author describes Tom Loker as a
heavy man, so the others can´t take him onto the hrse. Instead they get onto
their horses and ride away. Eliza and the other people run down to help him,
because he looks like he is dead and George doesn´t want ever to kill some-
one, so Phineas, someone from the Quaker house, takes Tom and bring him
to a farm. The journey for the young family goes on…
